I am closing down this Facebook group

When and why.

After years of providing great info to around 10,000 members now I will be closing this group for good on the 23 June next year.

Why?

facebook has blocked or muted me on 5 occasions now for what they call hate speech because i used the word idiot and stupid, also saying that we did not follow community guidelines but didn’t say what we did wrong. Facebook has threatened to close the group if i dont follow community guidelines, Also it is a lot of work for me and my admin team to control all the spam posts fake accounts and business posts selling shit people dont want. Daily we are bombarded with money making scams that we need to delete and adverts nobody really wants. Members almost never seen these spam or porn posts in the group because we are always on the ball and my admin team have been doing a great job .

Another main reason i am unhappy with facebook is that i get personal phone calls to my mobile every day for the last 2 months and i cant make it stop even after messaging facebook and changing my settings. These calls are from companies trying to sell be stuff . i asked where they got my details from and they have all told me that they have bought my details from facebook marketing lists. Most times these products are online marketing products because my main pages where set up as online marketing years ago.

Also I feel that Facebook platform is too controlling and restricting on what we can and cant say or post. With the threat of them closing us down when ever they like without notice. Facebook also trys to post adverts daily on many posts in the group that i have to delete or they try and encourage me personally to earn money from my group or their ads in my group. Many times facebook places their adverts in the posts without our say and we cant delete or control them, It has become all about earning for them and not a platform i wish to use any more.

I have a paid expats blog that i will be using more to provide videos interviews, posts and members help so as we can still encourage and help others who want to live and work in Spain but completely controlled by us.

My house build is almost finished now and so i want to spend more time on making furniture for my house and just enjoying life here in my new house but i will still provide regular posts videos and updates for those interested in learning about life in Spain that follow me on my blog. I will also be more available personally on my blog to chat live or one on one with my followers if they want help or advice. There will be new links to contact me personally as i love helping people follow their dreams.

The date the 23rd june is a big fiesta day here in Spain and also the day i will be having a big house warming party that has had to be put back due to the virus and travel restrictions and all those who have bought one of my books from Amazon will automatically be invited to the party here that day. it will be a big party all day with live music from a very famous salsa band here and open bar, food and entertainment around the pool and pool bar into the early hours. You still have time to get an invite if you buy a book..lol.

Anyway the blog has been going some time now and i will be upgrading it and building it up as my main site and i will be having many more videos and posts from the British consulate with all the updated info on this blog only. Some great new podcast episodes with the British consulate planned for this blog as well.

I set this date as it will be the house party that has been put back and because it gives me time to transition things over. if facebook dosnt shut us down before hand.

Our mentor program on Facebook will move over to the blog in the coming weeks and more of our posts and updates will also transition to the blog. its still a long way off but i wanted to give everyone a heads up. I wanted to do this starting this june but the viruse restrictions have meant that i cant have the party this year or finish the house as fast as i wanted to.

The blog will feature my youtube channel and podcast show and we will feature members stories help and advice on the blog as well as having a new mentoring group in the blog to help others who have a dream of moving to Spain. The mentor group on the facebook group has helped so many people so i want to continue this on my blog. Our Business page will be upgraded and we will promote followers businesses weekly on our business page and podcast show to help our members businesses in Spain. There will also be a new work and jobs page that will help followers find work in Spain. There will also be more on helping members to learn and practice Spanish live on the blog all for free with help from teachers and members.
